Dr. Oliver,
I was pleased at all of the progress that Valley is making on campus and in the surrounding communities. You and your staff made coming back to homecoming a overwhelming success. Again, thanks for a great homecoming weekend.

Dr. Oliver, I was not able to talk with you personally, but wanted you to know that I enjoyed being at Homecoming 2009. The parade, the game, and the reception were great. Soror, (Oak Ridge Alumnae, Oak Ridge, Tenn.), congratulations on your first Homecoming. Look forward to meeting you next year.

Dr. Oliver,
It was indeed a pleasure to finally get the opportunity to meet you in person. I admire your enthusiasm and committment to M.V.S.U. On behalf of the alumni brothers of the Zeta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., it was certainly a pleasure to give back to The Valley and we want to continue to do this as we strive to continue to grow and raise money through the Lawrence "Big Daddy" Sutton Endowment Scholarship. Be blessed and Long Live The Valley!

Dr. Oliver, thank you so much for your rigor and motivation to see this much needed project through. I must also commend you on not catering to low standards and setting the bar higher and expecting each and everyone involved with this university to rise to the occasion. I applaud you and ecourage you to lead the way by example and with integrity. There is certainly a progressive atmosphere on campus. There will be oppposition. There will be setbacks. Stay the course, hang in there, and fight the good fight. The future of many generations depends heavily upon what you do now with this golden opportunity that GOD has provided. Tis is the season of overflow for The Valley. Your light is shining and you are full of life in a dark and near dead place. Revitalization of the Valley and the Mississippi Delta is not impossible. It can be done. We are going to force the establishment to recognize that we are a political, social, and economic force to be reckoned with. Thank you and continue to mobilize the stagnated.

I was saddened to hear of the death of Dr. Boyer. I think back to my college days when I was editor-in-chief of the Delvian Gazette, the student newspaper, during the 1982-83 school year. Dr. Boyer and I clashed a many day over my views, especially when there was talk that the Mississippi State Legislature was going to close MVSU upon the recommendation of the State College Board. I can fondly recall being summoned and taken to task by Dr. Boyer for my outspoken views on what role he should take in keeping The Valley open. This stormy meeting was after I wrote a letter to The Greenwood Commonwealth that was printed. Yes there were good times as well. I respected him and admired him. He was not only one of my nemesis, but he was also my friend. My condolences to Lori, Kevin and Kelli.

Congratulations to our football team and coaches for our first win of the season! Also, congratulations to you, Dr. Oliver, on being named the Christ Universal Temple’s 2009 Classic Jewel. It sounds like MVSU had a wonderful weekend in Chicago.
