I am delighted to announce the newest addition of our executive staff, Dr. Johnny Jones, as vice president for student affairs and enrollment management. He knows MVSU extremely well – having graduated in 1996 with a degree in health, physical education and recreation.
We are fortunate to have someone of Dr. Jones’ caliber to return to his “home” in the Delta and join our team as we continue with the Valley Renaissance. Dr. Jones brings experience not only in leadership and strategic planning, but a plethora of experience in understanding the needs of today’s collegiate population.
He is on campus this week meeting with staff and students. I understand on Tuesday that he enjoyed having lunch with SGA representatives. He is eager to join our team as we move this beloved institution forward.
I know you will join me in giving him a warm Valley welcome!

I would like to say congratulation to Dr. Johnny Jones on his new position. He has a true love for Mississippi Valley State University and will always have the student’s best interest in mind. Thanks to President Oliver for her leadership and foresight.

At the same time, it brings me great joy to see him spread his wings and experience yet another new opportunity. He is an excellent administrator and has a great passion and a great love for students. His proven leadership resulted in many accomplishments at ABC with the most recent being a successful 2009 Focused Visit by the Higher Learning Commission. He has energy and he is dedicated and will make an excellent addition to the MVSU family!

I am very happy to see one of our own come back and help put MVSU on the map. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Jones during our undergraduate years there and we became close friends. He inviting personality, extensive administrative experience, and eagerness to see Valley thrive makes him an asset to the university. Congratulations, President Oliver, for making a great choice.

He is an outstanding organizer and brings a wealth of knowledge to the job. He is a dedicated and committed with an enthusiasm and work ethic that I know will be unmatched at the institution. His approach to student center learning, coupled with the president’s vision, is going to make for a dynamic team. Kudos to MSVU. I look forward to working with you!

I am familiar with his contributions at Washington State and the University of Arkansas in the areas of student retention and recruitment. Dr. Jones possesses a tireless work ethic that the University will certainly benefit from. In addition, Dr. Jones has had a plethora of global and domestic experiences which afford him an out of the box perspective and I think one needs this to perform the role of Vice President of Student Affairs. Students and colleagues should be inspired by Dr. Jones profile and I think this is an unwritten that should be attached with being an administrator at an institution of higher learning. Mr. Jones by far is the most dedicated and hardworking person I have ever had the opportunity of knowing. It is not the prestigious colleges he has been to or the countless hours he has spent on honing his craft that has led to his success; but rather his focus on the student body which fuels his passion to want to be a better leader. Mississippi Valley State is in a very unique situation where we are actually witnessing a rebirth of education at Valley through a renewed vision from astounding leadership. It is my opinion that hires such as Dr. Jones will only make MVSU a model school for a better future. Dr. Oliver thank you.

He thinks “students first” and his new roll of heading your Student Affairs office is perfect given his skill set and passion for the student body. He often spoke of MVSU and his fonds memories while there as an undergrad and his goal of one day returning to Valley to do all he could to help the University continue to thrive and prosper. He will do an outstanding job for your institution and I applaud Dr. Oliver in her selection.

He is always encouraging to others. He is always saying “get that PhD…go to law school”. He is always pushing for 110% because 100% is for the ordinary. He is supportive and challenging at the same time. He has never stayed away from his “home” for too long. When the football and basketball games were happening, he was in the meetings trying to figure out ways to improve
Valley. He wasn’t afraid to ask the administration questions. He is a true example of what an alumnus should be. With Dr. Oliver leading and Dr. Jones on the team, Valley is going to stand out from the rest….this time in a positive way. FIRED UP….READY TO GO!! Congrats brother and God bless you!
